First of all I want to thank you for supporting me prayerfully and financially. This year has been one of the hardest, but the best of my life and not just because of what I was getting from the Honor Academy. I was able to minister to a lot of people through helping at Acquire the Fire, calling people in my ministry placement for the Center for Creative Media, on my mission trip to Cuba and by being there for the other women in my core and on campus. God used me to help a lot of people come to Christ and it wouldn't have happened if you all hadn't been supporting me. So thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart.
Wow this year has gone by fast! I can hardly believe it, but I leave for Thanksgiving break tonight and when I get back I will only have two weeks as an intern before I graduate. I have learned so much! I am honestly not the same person I was when I came here. The Lord has used a lot of different situations to put me through the refining fire. A lot of that refining fire has come this last semester.
I know I wrote in a post about the difference between an August intern and a January one. But let's review: The year is more tailored to the August intern class. It starts in the fall and right off the bat they go through healing and restoration classes that helps them go through the junk from their past, see Christ and His broken heart for them, fall deeper in love with Jesus and be restored to the person that He wants them to be. In the spring semester the intern class goes through how to build Christlike principles into their lives. Things like healthy relationships and building a Godly romance are topics of conversation in the Spring semester. So the January class comes in and is dropped right into the midst of building healthy relationships and Godly romances as God is bringing up the areas in their lives that need healing. The January class absolutely loved the fast pace. We played a lot of catch up, but there was a LOT of support for us while we were learning to manage time and make our days fit around God, not God fit somewhere into our day.
So you may be thinking that there isn't a lot of growth for us in our second semester. But I think I have actually grown more in this last semester than the first one. One of the main reasons for this is the core situation. Cores are assigned in August and core advisors commit to stay for one year beginning in August. So I started out in one core and when all the August interns graduated from that class, I was assigned a new core. This allows the new core advisors to have someone in their core who is already in the swing of things and can help them lead the new people in their core. As Januaries we get the unique job of being someone in the room and the core who can be their for the girls while God brings up stuff they need to deal with in their life. This job has a title and is called the Assistant Core Advisor (or ACA). As an ACA I am a buffer in the room. I set the room rules to help prevent the small annoyances that always happen when people with different backgrounds and habits share a room. I hold room meetings, make sure the women in my room are doing ok, lend a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on, and relay information from our core advisor.
More growth this second semester came from my role as Team Captain (or TC) for my call team. When August rolled around we got two wonderful new admissions representatives in the Center for Creative Media, and it has been a blast working with them. We have so much fun and get our work done!
Another opportunity I have had to grow my leadership style is as a band leader for the School of Worship. Every week we had the challenge of leading worship in the prayer room for one hour. As a band leader it is my responsibility to put the set list together and make sure the chords are all correct and in the correct keys. I also direct band practice and lead the prayer room set. It has been an incredible opportunity. I have been frustrated at points, but have loved every second. And as you can see from the details of each of these leadership opportunities, keeping my time with God sacred, balancing the leadership roles and managing homework while still getting work done in my ministry placement has been a big deal this semester. I have learned a LOT about time management. And about letting the Lord lead me as I lead. I know that the times where I have felt completely overwhelmed and have been ready to give up have been the times where I was relying on my own strength instead of the Lord's.
All of the things that I have learned have prepared me for the future. I know the future He planned for me is bright. I know a lot of you have been wondering if I will be staying another year here at the ministry, and the answer to that question is...........................YES! I will be staying as a part of a new graduate intern program called the Intentional Influence Track! This will include planning and executing outreaches into the local communities. I will also have a ministry placement next year. As a graduate intern I get to apply for and choose the job that the Lord wants me to. And I have just accepted a job in Global Expeditions working with the project directors for the different trips and making sure they are set up for success with all of the things they need in order to direct the missionaries in the field.
As the seasons change isn't it appropriate how the season in my life is changing? I am so excited for this new season. Please continue to pray for me! They mean so much.

The Persecuted Church
A few weeks ago, we had the privilege to be able to kind of see what the persecuted church goes through on a regular basis. During the World Awareness Life Transforming Event all of the graduate interns and staff pretended to be a government that wanted us (the interns) to stop telling people that Jesus is the only way to Christ. We ran, set up a refugee camp and had to hide from government officials. (Just so everyone knows, no one was hurt, interns didn't have to participate if they were sick and we were allowed to go to the bathroom without being taken captive.)
It really opened my eyes to what goes on. I really didn't like living in the woods for 2 and a half days, but it was worth it. I was captured at one point and spent some time in the re-education center. While I was in there, I was just laying on the floor of my shower cell (the prison was in the showers for the summer camp we have on campus) I had the realization that somewhere in the world there are multiple people laying on the floors of their cells begging God to give them strength to endure starvation, torture and a lot of other things. I started crying and praying for them. In that moment, I found peace and the came to the realization that I needed to act like Christ and show His love even in prison. Walking the line between showing Christ's love to the guards and not denying Christ was a struggle all weekend long. I really had to figure out for myself what I would do and how I would react if I was a member of the persecuted. church.
I gained a lot of respect and a heart for those in the world that are hunted, held in prisons, tortured and killed for Christ. They can't do anything about it and Christ is their hope and His love is worth it to them. I pray that they stay strong and that their actions while in prison is a testimony and a reflection of the love Christ showed for us. Mission Trip and Unreached People Groups
Hello friends!
It is super crazy around here! I'm pretty sure the interns here haven't had a weekend off in over 2 months. We are all tired, a little crazy and (most of us are) absolutely loving it!
This past month I have had the opportunity to go to Cuba to spread the knowledge of the love of Christ to the people there. It was a little interesting getting into the country and, but the Lord did amazing things while we were there. A lot of little children came to know the Lord because of the VBS's we did and the training we were able to do with a lot of Children's pastors. The first few days we hosted a conference for men and women of God that are involved in Children's ministry all over Cuba. We brought a professional juggler/clown and he taught the people the basics of each. Hopefully they can use what he taught to make an even bigger impact on the children there! After that we traveled around doing VBS in different towns and talking to pastors. One of the best things we got to do while we were there was pray over and bless different pastors. The church there is gaining a little more religious freedom, praise the Lord, but it is still not easy to be a pastor in Cuba. So getting to encourage and speak life over pastors was meaningful for the whole team. It was really awesome to see the work that the Lord is doing through those pastors despite the opposition. If God is for us, who can be against us? Continue to pray for the people of Cuba!
After I got back from Cuba we all went straight in to the Unreached People Group's Life Transforming Event (LTE). A lot of the things that the Honor Academy does looks goofy, but they all have a reason. During this particular LTE half of the student body pretended to be different tribes that are out there in the world right now. These tribes are completely unreached by the gospel of Jesus Christ. The groups of interns take on their customs and make up a language. Then the other half of us pretend to be missionaries and it is our job to bring the gospel to these groups of people. I was a missionary to the Korwa tribe. We, as a group, had to find a way to share Christ with them that would be relevant to their culture and make sense to them. It was interesting because we had to think like someone who has never heard the name Jesus before. We had to learn their language and take on some parts of their culture to gain their friendship so that we could share Christ with them in a way that would make sense to them. And also so that they wouldn't take us captive at 4am or steal our food. It was a very enlightening LTE and I came away with the realization that they really do not know! It kind of seems simple, but it became very real when I was with my group in the woods trying to share the gospel with a tribe of people who were pretending to be a real group of people. And my heart broke for them because without Christ they have no hope, peace, joy or love. They don't know that the being who created them loves them unconditionally. I pray for the real Korwa tribe and all the other people groups in the world who have never heard!
This next week I am off to the Acquire the Fire in Everett!! Pray for us as we drive there and that the event will run smoothly. After that we get back to campus we will be going straight into the next LTE...the World Awareness LTE. This is the one where the staff and graduate interns pretend to be a government where religious freedom is not an option any more and the interns are faced with the question of do we succumb and deny Jesus or do we hold firm?

Fasting and classes
This past weekend on campus we fasted and prayed. We did this as part of the Fasting Life Transforming Event (LTE). In addition to the fasting, we also took a vow of silence. We could not talk to each other the entire weekend. It was interesting how quiet it was! There are over 200 interns on campus and there was complete silence. The purpose of the vow of silence was to only focus on God this weekend. And the Lord spoke...a lot. The end result was that I was able to deepen my relationship with God WITHOUT DISTRACTIONS!! When you are constantly surrounded by people it can be hard sometimes to get away and just focus on the Lord! I was able to do that this weekend. It was a truly amazing experience.
I also wanted to tell you guys about the classes I'm taking. The first class of the week is the School of Worship class. Right now we are learning about the tabernacle and the pattern God set up by it for entering into worship. The second class I have on Monday is Worldview. We are learning about different ways different people see the world and the differences between those views and a Christian worldview. On Tuesdays I have New Testament Survey which is an elective. Right now we are going through all of the books of the New Testament and learning what the main themes are. Then we have Character Development which is taught by Ron Luce. We have been learning about how to be a great leader and how to be a servant leader. I love Wednesdays because we are learning about unreached people groups where people do not have access to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Missions class. Then we have Pursuit of God right after. Right now we are reading a book written in the 1600's by Brother Lawrence called Practice of the Presence. On Thursdays I am taking a class on apologetics (which is also an elective). And then there's a women's class called Risen which is wonderful! I love learning about what being a woman means biblically (not it's not just be a mom and a wife). I love all of my classes! I'm learning so much! Please pray for me in the upcoming year as I am very busy with homework.
Another thing I wanted to share with you is that I have chosen where I'm going to be going for my missions trip! Unfortunately, because of the location we will be going, I cannot post the name of the country on the internet. You can feel free to call me though! I would love to share that with you! Valentine's Day HA Style
Some of you might read the title of this blog post and think "Huh? Valentine's Day? I thought they weren't allowed to date!" Well, we aren't. We have just been learning about the real purpose of Valentine's Day. So buckle up, relax and get ready for a story.
It all started with God's love. For the love of their Creator some people have been willing to die for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There were three men across various stages of church history, all with the last name of Valentine, that gave up their lives because they wouldn't deny Christ. According to church tradition they all were martyred on February 14. The first was Valentine of Terni. We do not know what he did, but he was a bishop in the local church. He was martyred in AD 197. The next was Valentine of Rome. He was arrested for bringing aid to prisoners. He was martyred in AD 269. The third Valentine was martyred in Africa where he was a missionary. Because of the nature and location of his ministry, we do not know what year he passed away. In honor of these men the church formed Valentine's Day. It was a day to remember the sacrifice people were making to spread the message of Jesus all over the world. So why do we have a distorted version of Valentine's Day?
Well, it just so happened that in the Roman empire there was a pagan fertility festival that coincided with Valentine's Day. It did manage to stay pretty separate until Chaucer, the poet, was hired to write a poem celebrating the engagement of a royal couple. He wrote about love birds, engagement and Valentine's Day. That forever linked the two separate celebrations. I don't think there's anything wrong with Valentine's Day. I love Valentine's Day! But it is nice to know the true meaning behind it so that I can remember those who have given up their lives for the cause of Jesus Christ.
Speaking of Valentine's Day, my family core had ours this past Saturday! It was wonderful. We spent all afternoon and evening together. In the afternoon we just ate lunch, relaxed and played a few games. Then after we had had a few hours of that, our brother core advisor announced that we had until 6 to get all dressed up and they would be taking us to town for dinner. They had reserved a rec. room at a local church and decorated it with Christmas lights for us. Dinner was awesome! They made spaghetti and meatballs with red velvet cake for dessert! By each of our plates was a heart shaped box of chocolates and a verse from Proverbs 31. It was a beautiful night! I loved every minute of it. I have the best brothers in the world!
I love you guys! You have been so faithful in your support! Without you, I would not be having experiences like this. You are a part of this year! So thank you very much. Right now I am $65 behind in my donation record. And I need to raise $990 for next month's payment. Plus, the Lord has told me that I am going to a country that desperately needs the Lord for my missions trip. I owe $1,250 by today (I didn't find out about the trip until very recently). Ministry Placement and Core
Hello all! I hope everyone is doing well! I hope to be speaking with you all very soon. I am in the process of getting everyone's phone numbers as well as email addresses and physical addresses. Things here are going well! I have been placed in my ministry placement. I am very excited to announce that I will be serving the Center for Creative Media as a representative on the phone. I will also be doing a few administrative things around the office. I love the people here, not only in the office, but in the internship as well. I encourage you to look up more information about them at www.centerforcreativemedia.org. They are such a blessing to our country and world!
I had the opportunity to go to the Houston Acquire the Fire! It was an amazing experience. I drove in with the Center for Creative Media team and helped run the promotions table for CCM. We got a really big response! I pray that CCM will continue to grow and flourish like it has been in the last couple of years. It was exhausting, but adrenaline kept everyone going. We had a couple of adventures (which I will tell you about the next time I talk with you...so call me and give me your number!) and the host home we stayed in was wonderful! They are amazing people to open their home to a group of 12 strangers when they had a 1 year old. Especially since we didn't really get in until the wee hours of the morning both nights we stayed there. Mrs. Grimm even made breakfast for us both days. What a blessing! There was a lot of great ministry that went on at the event. There are so many stories of teenagers giving their lives to Christ!
Back on campus, we were finally introduced to our brother core! (For those who don't know, when an intern is placed in their ministry placement they are also placed in a permanent core group. These are your roommates and the people in the room next door.) The people in your core are called your sisters/brothers depending on your gender. The purpose of the group is to make a large organization feel small and like family. You need to feel comfortable telling your core anything because they are your support system. They really are your brothers/sisters. In addition to that, you are also assigned a brother/sister core of the opposite gender. This is so that people can learn how to have healthy relationships with people of the opposite gender. Especially if they haven't learned that before. So we found out who our brothers are today! Our Core Advisors made breakfast for us and then we had a family dinner tonight. We have family dinners every Tuesday night. They are all super awesome :)

We're here...in Texas :)
Well I just wanted to let all of you know that we made the trip safely. It was a pretty uneventful drive thank the Lord! Tomorrow is move in day!! I can't wait!

Tomorrow's the Big Day!
Tomorrow Mom, Katrina and I will be hitting the road bright and early. I have spent much of the last week collecting last minute necessities, and packing. Now, I am finally organized...Yay!!
Here's a picture of the finished product. It's bigger than it looks in the picture though. My hope is that I can fit everything in my teeny tiny dorm room. Pray for us as we hit the road and pray that once I get there the settling in process will be low-key and low-stress.
I'm going to be honest with you guys in that God has been using even the preparation process as a faith builder. I have discovered that it's not easy to fundraise and fundraising really hits me personally in the pride department. It's not easy to admit that I can't do things on my own. And it's not easy to trust the Lord with my funds and remember that He has called me to this, and He's going to provide the way financially as well as emotionally. I know that the Lord is going to continue to work on me with this. Especially since I only have through January raised. Continue to keep me in your prayers, and if you need prayer for anything email me at internrenae@gmail.com. I love you guys!
